On Friday, 20 May 2016 a presentation of the 2M62UM-0111 locomotive took place in Latvia – the first out of 14 two-piece locomotives designed to operate on the Latvian Latvijas Dzelzceļš railways was introduced.
This modernisation took place at the SIA “LDZ ritošā sastāva serviss”depot in Riga under the supervision of CZ LOKO workers. During June, the locomotive will undergo tests and will be put into operation in July.
The Latvian national railway company Latvijas Dzelzceļš entered into a contract with CZ LOKO for the modernisation of 14 2M62U two-piece diesel-electric locomotives. The last pair of which should be put into operation in 2017. Packets for the modernisation are produced by the CZ LOKO Jihlava operation. The drives will be MTU internal combustion engines from Rolls-Royce Power Systems with an output of 2,200kW, fulfilling the emissions standard Euro IIIA.
Modernisation of the six-axle locomotives, known in the Czech Republic as “Sergei”, will significantly lower the Latvian carrier’s cost of operation and maintenance, extending service life, comfort and safety for operating personnel. The design builds on locomotive Class 753.6. The locomotive is designed as a cab-unit type with one driver’s cabin. The maximum speed is 100 km/h The vehicles will be used for freight traffic from Russia and Belarus.
CZ LOKO has already modernised the state railway in Latvia during the years 2011-2013 with 14 ČME 3M shunting locomotives.
